- Ushers serve once a month to distribute service bulletins and collect the offering. If you would like to be an usher, contact Diana Starnes.
- Greeters welcxome church goers as they enter the sanctuary before the service. Each greeter serves once a month. If you would like to serve in this manner, contact Greeter Coordinators Frank and Marie Campilongo.
- The Welcoming Taskforce greets first-time visitors after each service and presents them with information about our congregation and a small gift. If you would like to serve, contact Hope Coleman.
- Office Volunteers serve one Sunday a month in the church office during the worship service. They take phone calls and assist the Sunday School teachers by collecting attendance figures and offerings from the Sunday School classes. If you would like to serve, contact Hope Coleman.
During the Week
- Ties of Love Quilt Ministry meets once a month, usually on the third Thursday morning, to create lap quilts that the pastor presents to members who are ill or undergoing another crisis.
- The CARE Corps stays in touch with homebound members.
- Christian Community Service Agency (CCSA)
CCSA has volunteer opportunities at both the Clairemont Center near St. Mark's and the Joyce Snyder Center serving the homeless in Pacific Beach. For more information, please visit their website.
- Storefront
Storefront is a night shelter for homeless teens located near Fourth and Walnut in San Diego. Members of St. Mark's provides dinner for the guests and staff on the fourth Monday of each month. If your family would be able to provide dinner, please email the church office for available dates.
- Food Collection Sundays
St. Mark's collects financial gifts and canned goods for CCSA and Good Neighbor Centers on the
First Sunday of each month. CCSA, which has branches in Clairemont and Pacific Beach, is supported by 29 churches in Clairemont, Bay Park, La Jolla and University City. Good Neighbor Centers in southeast San Diego and Nestor are a project of the San Diego District of the United Methodist Church. Both agencies provide emergency food and clothing, bus tokens for job seekers, and referrals to other services.
- IHOP Coupons
The International House of Pancakes Restaurant at 6135 Balboa Avenue will rebate to Clairemont Christian Service Agency 10% of all their receipts returned to them by St. Mark's. Members deposit receipts in a box in the church office, and they are returned to IHOP monthly.
- Campbell's Soup Labels
St. Mark's collects the labels from Campbell's soup cans and sends them to Neighborhood House in Calexico, California (a United Methodist Mission Project). They redeem them with the company and use the funds for various program items.
- Alternative Christmas Market
St. Mark's holds an annual event where members purchase goods or donate funds to organizations that serve those in need in the community. The purchaser may give the gift in honor of another person and receive a certificate that indicates the gift was made in their name. The Alternative Christmas Market in 2008 will be held on November 16.
- Interfaith Shelter Network
St. Mark's is a helper congregation for the Interfaith Shelter Network, which provides an evening shelter for homeless families and single women at various churches. Each church site serves for two weeks. St. Mark's provides dinners and overnight hosts for four evenings at another church. Our assigned dates for this winter will be available soon.
