Church Maintenance Technician

Part Time at-will, non-exempt position
Hours: Approximately 12 hours per week, (6 on Saturday, 6 during the week)

General Job Description

The Church Maintenance Technician will help maintain the campus facilities, grounds, and parking lots.  This candidate will be a self-starter, responsible for painting interior and exterior building surfaces, do general electrical and plumbing maintenance, assemble and repair office and classroom furniture, and assist custodian as needed.

Salary and Benefits

Minimum hourly wage for this position is $20.  Two weeks paid vacation after 12 months employment. Accrued sick leave based on hours worked.

Experience and Education

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2-years’ experience in building maintenance preferred
  • Strong time management skills
  • Basic carpentry, flooring, plumbing, electrical, painting, and HVAC knowledge required.
  • Attention to detail

Responsibilities and Relationships

  • Relationships
    1. Reports to Senior Minister, Board of Trustees, and Lay Personnel Committee
    2. Works with all staff members at church and nursery school
  • Principle Functions:
    1. Available Saturdays and evenings (for a total of 12 hours)
      1. Additional on-call as needed (i.e. to cover custodian vacations)
    2. Work directly with Chairperson of Board of Trustees, or designated personnel on job assignments to include:
      1. Inspect lighting systems for proper operation and replace lights, defective ballasts and bulbs as needed
      2. Paint interior and exterior building surfaces
      3. Check all bathroom plumbing systems for proper operation.  Repair/replace as needed.
      4. Check all kitchen plumbing systems and fixtures.  Repair/replace as needed.
      5. Check that HVAC system filters are maintained
      6. Check church building structure for any defects and repair immediately if minor work is needed.  Otherwise, promptly report any issues to the Board of Trustees.
      7. Maintain church landscape such as trash removal, trimming trees of intrusive   branches and hedges, watering plants
      8. Ensure parking lot is free of junk, trash, and garbage.
      9. Maintaining safe working environment during maintenance
      10. Good communication skills


  1. Must be 18 years or older
  2. Must have current driver’s license
  3. Must have reliable transportation
  4. Must have cell-phone with camera and text ability
  5. Must have basic tools set
  6. Must demonstrate ability to achieve desired outcome of job responsibilities
  7. Must pass background check and drug screen

Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions

  1. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  2. Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated heights
  3. Ability to collaborate and coordinate with church staff on special maintenance projects
  4. Ability to work in inclement weather for short periods of time
