Sierra Service Project
Planning and fundraising for SSP 2009 is currently underway, so please let a youth leader know if you are interested in attending. This summer we will have both a junior high and a senior high team. Click here to make a financial contribution to support the 2009 SSP team at St. Mark's! About SSPSSP is an opportunity for youth to grow in their faith, while also creating new friendships and learning to use power tools! St. Mark's has made SSP an annual tradition since 2002, visiting sites in Arizona, Calfornia and Oregon. Learn more about the SSP program. SSP 2008: "Fueled by Love, Driven By Hope"2008 was a year of firsts. It was the first time SSP was open to junior high youth. We sent a team of seven youth to Walker River, Nevada, where they served on a Native American reservation doing painting and home repair projects. It was also the first time that the senior high participated in a project that was not on a reservation. The team of 15 youth and 3 adults spent the week in an urban setting, serving the community of South Los Angeles. In addition to home repair projects, the team also participated in feeding the homeless on skid row, cleaning up street alleys with the South L.A. Beautification Team, and exploring areas of Los Angeles, such as the Watts Towers, the Downtown Women's Center, and the youth center in the city of Hawthorne. See previous projects |
