Dear St. Mark’s,

I hope this email finds you well as we enter into our 10th week of social distancing. This is truly a challenging time for all of us, I know. I hear you, I feel you, I’m with you. Our District Superintendent, John Farley, sent us a very encouraging video this week that you can watch by going to this site:

It harkens back to my sermon a couple weeks ago when I shared that the greatest gift of suffering is that it immediately brings into focus what we value most in our lives. Believe me, I too, need to constantly remind myself of this.

This upcoming Sunday’s service will be slightly different. The Bishop and his cabinet have encouraged all pastors, musicians, and technicians to take a sabbath weekend due to all the digital work we’ve been doing. And in place, they are going to lead us in worship! Therefore, most UMC churches will be tuning into this service provided for us by the Bishop and cabinet. I am grateful for this brief gift of rest but more so, excited to worship together as a conference, though within the confines of our own homes. To watch, you can just go to the same site you’ve been going to each week at on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

On another happy note, our pancake breakfast resumes! Pancake makers extraordinaire, Ralph Denton and Tim Higgins, are providing a drive-thru breakfast for us this Sunday morning. Talk about service! Look through the rest of the Messenger for more information on that.

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, please take a photo of you joining in our Sunday morning services and send them into the office at . You see us every Sunday and now, we’d like to see more of YOU!

In this together,

Rev. Lydia
