Grief Support Group

Grief caused by death is something everyone experiences in their life.  It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now if you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend.

You’ve probably found there are few people who understand the deep hurt you feel.  This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before.

GriefShare groups meet weekly for 13-weeks to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements: videos with experts, support group discussion with focus, and personal study and reflection.

Lindsey Van Gorder, Clinical Social Worker at Scripps Health, will lead this 13-week series on Tuesdays, beginning May 7 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Contact the St. Mark’s Office at 858-273-1480 to sign up or you may click the link to register at

Monday ~ Noah’s Ark

Noah, the one righteous and blameless person on the face of the earth, is commanded by God to construct an ark, into which he would bring his family and pairs of animals. “What, is Noah crazy?” the people shout. And just what is he to do with such a giant boat? What flood?”

Tuesday ~ Tower of Babel

After the Great Flood some time passes. Many people lived in the land of Shinar and spoke the same language. They construct a tall tower meant to reach heaven. The pride of mankind grows and the people begin to worship gods of their own making. But the true God of Israel puts a stop to their silliness. “Stop the tower!” God commands. Whoa, and then mass confusion.

Wednesday ~ David and Goliath

For 40 days, Goliath, the Philistine champion, strikes terror in the hearts of Saul’s soldiers. But bigger than the giant’s 9-feet, 9-inch size, is the bravery and faith of a young shepherd boy and musician from Bethlehem. “I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man that we may fight together,” declares the giant. And the encamped Israelites shrink away, saying, “Yeh, right!”

Thursday ~ Jonah and the Big Fish

The Word of the Lord came to Jonah, saying, “Get going to the city of Ninevah, Jonah, it’s a wicked place and tell them to repent!” Jonah thinks NO WAY, finds a ship bound for elsewhere and sails away from Ninevah. While on board, there’s a storm and he is a stowaway. Sailors find him, and throw Jonah over-board where he spends the next three days in the belly of a big ol’ fish. “Jeepers, Jonah!”

Friday ~ Joshua and the Walls at Jericho

Moses gives leadership into the Promised Land of Canaan to Joshua. This new land wasn’t theirs without a fight. The Children of Israel have just crossed the Jordan River and the city of Jericho, with its single gate, is nearby. Jericho is completely surrounded by a strong wall. “How will we get in?” the people shout. “Start marchin’!” Joshua answers.
