Rev. Craig DorvalSenior Minister
Craig Dorval grew up in Lutherville, Maryland, and received his B.A. from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1976. He worked in commercial radio, and briefly as a counselor at a group home before beginning his career in public broadcasting at WBHM in Birmingham, Alabama. He moved to San Diego to work for KPBS in 1978, and over 26 years worked in a variety of capacities, including on-air fundraiser, radio program director, and manager.
He received his M.Div. from the Claremont School of Theology in 1995, and began a second career as an ordained minister, serving United Methodist Churches in Mission Valley, Mission Hills, Chula Vista, Point Loma, and Julian. He came to St. Mark’s as Associate Minister in 2008, and was appointed Senior Minister in July 2012.
He and his wife Merrie live in the El Cerrito neighborhood near San Diego State. They have two cats and an exceptionally spoiled dog, who all get along, mostly.
Rev. Jeri Newell-DavisAssociate Minister
Jeri Newell-Davis is a native So. Californian who moved to San Diego in 1967. She graduated from Madison High School in 1975 and started working for Time Warner Cable in 1983. She began her education towards ministry in 1994, graduating from San Diego Christian College in June, 2004 and entered Fuller Theological Seminary, in Pasadena in July 2004. Jeri graduated with her M-Div from Fuller in May, 2011.
During her educational years, Jeri continued working at Time Warner Cable and transitioned to Office Manager at tw telecom. Jeri left her 29-year career at tw telecom when she was appointed Associate Minister to St. Mark’s in August, 2012.
Jeri has one son, Adam, who lives in a suburb outside Dallas, Texas.
Frank WilliamsMusic Director
Frank, born and raised in Pennsylvania, started piano lessons at age nine. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1973 and played piano and organ for churches near his duty stations. A 23-year career at Point Loma Nazarene University as Senior Financial Aid Officer and Adjunct Professor of Music, Frank has taught and played organ and piano and directed many choirs in churches throughout San Diego County.
“I have always loved choral and organ music-especially when the words and the music perfectly complement each other,” Frank says. “It takes me to a place I call heaven on earth. How wonderful it is to sing God’s Word.”
